PSG Overcomes Olympique de Marseille via Spot-Kicks to Secure Trophee des Champions Season-Opening Trophy in the Middle East.

Trophy celebration scene

The Parisian club has now secured the season-opening cup on fourteen different times.

The Parisian giants needed a dramatic leveler followed by a successful spot-kick decider to get past their arch-rivals in Kuwait and capture a record-extending fourth consecutive French Super Cup victory.

The European champions seemed to be sailing towards a comfortable triumph in the showdown featuring the French league champions and the Coupe de France holders after the French winger found the scoring in the opening stages.

However, Marseille fired two times in the closing moments to seize a shock advantage. First, Mason Greenwood scored from the spot-kick, before the defender inadvertently turned the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a breathtaking turn of events, the Portuguese striker grabbed a crucial leveler in the final seconds to force the contest into a penalty shootout. PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier then stood as the hero, saving crucial attempts from Matt O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

In the shootout, Goncalo Ramos, Vitinha, the full-back, and the young talent all converted with composure for PSG to seal a 4-1 shootout win.

The record champions PSG, who faced last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Marseille after achieving a league and cup double, have now won this competition for the 12th time in the last 13 seasons.
