Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one titles have been achieved on hardcourt

A comeback Medvedev won his first championship for 882 days with a win over Corentin Moutet in the competition final.

The athlete, a former number one, has endured a difficult year, managing just one match at the Grand Slams and undergoing a meltdown at the New York tournament.

His varied form on the tennis tour - and issues with his serve in especial - resulted in him dropping out of the top ten and finally splitting with former coach Cervara.

Now collaborating with Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, he has steadily progressed in the last few weeks - culminating in a hard-fought competitive victory over challenger Moutet.

This represents Medvedev's initial trophy after the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hardcourt from spring of that year.

Victory also means Medvedev has won 21 championships at 21 various tournaments.

"For the first time I'm at a competition with my both daughters together, so to get a trophy is really nice," commented world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.

"This championship is in honour of my younger daughter her name, because the initial championship I won when my older daughter her name was born was for her."

The athlete, the former major winner, had been defeated in his last six title deciders, featuring in that event previously this season.

Medvedev's counter-punching strategy and frequent reactions on the tennis court had caused commentators to wonder if his skill to compete at the highest level was over.

Yet the 29-year-old has implemented adjustments in recent weeks, striving to approach the net and compete assertively, supported by an better serving game.

The champion came back from a break down in the initial set against the challenging Moutet, taking 4 of the concluding five exchanges to take the lead.

Both players exchanged service breaks in the middle set before the Frenchman, bidding for his initial professional victory, gained dominance to push for a third set.

Moutet saved four early break points in a competitive third set before Medvedev won the break to 15 to close out the victory.

Appropriately, the winner secured the title with a rally at the front of the court, with Moutet failing to manage a return after over two and a half hours.
